After nearly a decade of playing and touring together, Madeline and Caitlin Broms Jacobs will launch their first CD! Madeline writes, “The title of the album, Sing to Me Again, references the lyrical nature of the repertoire. But is also represents the silenced voices of the 20th Century; the composers who have undeservedly been underplayed, and the composers who have been restricted in artistic expression.”
Fierbois chose to feature composers from the Soviet Socialist Realism movement, an era when composers and artists were mandated to represent an idealized representation of life there. These works, with their “national sound through modality and their rhythmic and melodic folk idioms”, captivate the listener in this perfect combination of oboe and piano.
As compelling as the music are the stories that come with the selections, masterfully told by Maddy and Caitlin.
The release of this CD takes place, appropriately, in the Canadian Museum for Human Rights, a space dedicated to enhancing the public's understanding of human rights, to promoting respect for others and encouraging reflection and dialogue.
The concert is pay-what-you-can. Persons donating $20 and above will receive a copy of Sing to Me Again.
