Ritual and Resistance takes a journey through pre and post-war music of the Soviet Union.
The program opens with Shostakovich’s first piano trio, a musical love letter written by the sixteen-year-old composer for his girlfriend. Khachaturian scholar Gayane Chebotarian’s piano trio is paired with Khachaturian’s popular clarinet trio.
The concert concludes with Sofia Gubaidulina’s monumental piano quintet, performed by MUN students and faculty.
